Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre Rolls Out Diverse Events For UAE Reading Month 2024

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC), a key division of the Department of Culture and Tourism—Abu Dhabi, is actively participating in the UAE Reading Month, celebrated annually in March. This initiative showcases a rich cultural programme filled with events and activities tailored for individuals of all age groups. Highlighting the importance of reading and its impact on human development, the ALC's agenda includes sessions on culture, literature, and dialogue featuring prominent writers, thinkers, and poets.

One of the standout initiatives, "Khazanat Al Kutub", aims to enhance cultural and intellectual knowledge among participants. It also seeks to promote the Arabic language, foster a love for reading, and underscore the significance of books as vital tools for human advancement. Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, emphasized the crucial role of reading in societal development and knowledge enhancement. He noted that the UAE Reading Month underscores the nation's dedication to cultivating a reading culture.

UAE Reading Month 2024 Events Unveiled

Among the scheduled events is the "Library Treasures Event", set to take place at the Children's Library within the Cultural Foundation and Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi on 23rd and 24th March. This event will not only feature reading sessions from "Khazanat Al Kutub" but also establish platforms across various shopping centres in Abu Dhabi to boost book visibility and enrich community cultural experiences. Workshops on drawing, Arabic calligraphy, and handicrafts will be conducted by Haya Al Qassim and Maryam Al Jassmi.

In an effort to extend its reach, the ALC will conduct a virtual workshop for members of the Ministry of Interior. This session aims to familiarize them with the Specialised Libraries Department website, guiding them on subscription processes, search functionalities, and database utilization. The team from the Specialised Libraries Department will lead this informative session.

Furthermore, an Arabic Calligraphy session is on the agenda, where calligrapher Ismail Al Hosni will share insights into this art form's history and discuss its significance. The session will also cover the UAE's contributions to preserving Arabic calligraphy and its tools on a global scale. In celebration of World Poetry Day on 21st March, a poetry evening is planned to highlight Arabic poetry's beauty and importance, featuring a selection of poets who will present their innovative literary works.

The designation of March as National Reading Month by the Cabinet annually supports the Ministry of Culture’s initiatives aimed at promoting reading habits among UAE residents. This move aligns with broader efforts to enhance cultural literacy and ensure that reading remains a cornerstone of societal development.
