Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre Exhibits Over 570 Titles At Almadinah Book Fair

The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) recently concluded its inaugural participation at the Almadinah Book Fair. This event, organised by the Saudi Literature, Publishing, and Translation Commission, took place from 30th July to 5th August. It featured over 300 publishing houses from various countries.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, highlighted the importance of book fairs in promoting publishing and the book industry. He stated, "Book fairs in Saudi Arabia embody the flourishing cultural scene in the Kingdom. They provide an ideal opportunity for us at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre to strengthen relations with Saudi publishing and cultural industry stakeholders at the Arab and international levels, and to exchange inspiring ideas and visions that have the potential to develop this key industry."

570 Titles Showcased by ALC at Book Fair

The ALC’s pavilion showcased more than 570 publications from its Kalima Project for Translation, Esdarat project, and Basaer series of research papers. This included 65 new titles. The centre's participation aimed to enhance relationships with stakeholders in the publishing industry while highlighting its initiatives related to book publishing and translation.

During the fair, the ALC presented works from its Kalima Project for Translation. This initiative seeks to revive translation activities in the Arab world, support cultural events in Abu Dhabi, and enrich both regional and international cultural landscapes.

The Almadinah Book Fair 2024 programme featured a variety of cultural events. These included poetry evenings, workshops, a children’s area, and panel discussions with notable writers and thinkers. The event provided a platform for local and international publishing houses to showcase their work.

Dr. Ali bin Tamim emphasised that participating in book fairs across the region is crucial for creative platforms that promote publishing. He noted that these fairs offer opportunities to exchange ideas that can advance the industry.

The ALC’s involvement in such events underscores its commitment to fostering cultural exchange and supporting the growth of the publishing sector. By participating in these fairs, the centre aims to build stronger ties with stakeholders and contribute to cultural enrichment on a broader scale.

The Almadinah Book Fair served as a significant venue for showcasing diverse literary works and fostering dialogue among cultural enthusiasts. The event's success highlights its role in promoting literature and cultural understanding globally.

The ALC's presence at this fair marks a step towards enhancing its influence within the regional and international literary community. This participation not only strengthens existing relationships but also opens doors for future collaborations in the publishing world.

By engaging with various stakeholders at such events, the ALC continues to play a pivotal role in advancing literature and culture within Abu Dhabi and beyond.
