Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre To Expand Global Presence Through International Book Fairs In 2025
The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) is gearing up to broaden its global footprint by 2025. It plans to participate in over 20 international book fairs. This initiative aims to boost collaboration with key Arab and foreign publishers, highlight its latest works, and reinforce Abu Dhabi's pivotal role in supporting culture and the publishing industry worldwide.
At the 2024 Frankfurt Book Fair, the ALC introduced the ‘Promoting Arabic Book’ initiative. Through this effort, 2,000 Arabic titles were distributed to libraries in France, Germany, and Spain. Additionally, the Centre actively promoted the Arabic language during ‘Arabian Days’ events in Moscow and Japan, showcasing its cultural richness to diverse audiences.

Engaging in international events offers a valuable opportunity for the ALC to secure translation rights for its ‘Kalima’ translation project. It also allows connections with agents and distributors while facilitating partnerships and cooperation agreements. The Centre participates in implementing the ‘Protocol of Cooperation and Exchange between Book Fairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council’ and other major cultural events globally.
The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair exemplifies these efforts by promoting itself, highlighting participation benefits, programmes, events, and available spaces for sale. The fair aims to attract publishers from new markets alongside renowned publishers and authors. It also promotes prestigious initiatives like the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, Kanz Al Jeel, Sard Al Thahab awards, and projects such as Kalima and Esdarat.
The ALC is committed to enhancing communication with international publishers and associations. In partnership with the Arab Publishers’ Association, it seeks to position the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair as a premier platform for launching new Arabic publications. The Centre focuses on developing mechanisms to support emerging authors and promote the Arabic e-book industry.
Foreign participation not only helps sell ALC's publications but also strengthens key partnerships. It supports cooperation agreements that benefit both parties involved. These collaborations are crucial for expanding the reach of Arabic literature across different cultures.
The ALC has established strong professional relationships with leading cultural centres worldwide since its inception. These partnerships have been instrumental in promoting Arabic culture globally through various initiatives and events.
By participating in numerous international book fairs by 2025, ALC aims to further solidify its presence on the global stage. This strategic move will enhance collaboration opportunities with prominent publishing houses worldwide while showcasing Abu Dhabi's commitment to supporting culture globally.
