Abu Dhabi Airports Reports 13.1% Passenger Growth In H1 2025
Abu Dhabi Airports has reported a remarkable 13.1% surge in passenger numbers, reaching over 15.8 million in the first half of 2025, marking the 17th quarter of consecutive growth. This increase, compared to the first six months of 2024, highlights the operator's significant contribution to the emirate's economic expansion and global connectivity.
Zayed International Airport (AUH), the main hub, witnessed a 13.2% rise in foot traffic, with over 15.5 million travelers, and flight movements across all five airports grew by 9.2% to 133,533 flights, underscoring a robust performance in aviation activities.
In the initial six months of 2025, Abu Dhabi Airports not only managed a substantial 344,795 tonnes of cargo, underlining the emirate's increasing prominence in international trade but also saw the completion of key strategic projects.
This period was characterized by the signing of a significant partnership with JD Property, aimed at developing an advanced logistics hub, and the successful completion of enhancement works at Sir Bani Yas Airport, which aligns with Al Dhafra's eco-tourism objectives. Notably, AUH's commitment to excellence was recognised with a 3 Pearl Estidama construction rating and accolades for being the 'Best Airport at Arrivals Globally’ at the ACI ASQ Awards.
The network's growth was further supported by the introduction of 16 new destinations and the establishment of fresh airline partnerships, signifying Abu Dhabi Airports' focus on extending its global reach. Noteworthy among these were the services initiated by China Eastern Airlines to Shanghai, Air Seychelles' flights, and Fly Cham's connection to Damascus.
IndiGo expanded its operations with new routes, reinforcing AUH's status as a key hub in the UAE. This strategic expansion underlines the operator's ambition to enhance its worldwide connectivity and service offerings.
Elena Sorlini, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, reflected on the first half's achievements, acknowledging the operational hurdles faced yet highlighting the resilience and collaborative efforts that led to exceptional mid-year results.
Sorlini commended the continuous growth over 17 quarters as a testament to the team's dedication and the strategic partnerships that have fueled this success. She emphasised the importance of Abu Dhabi Airports in supporting the emirate’s burgeoning tourism and trade sectors.
Abu Dhabi Airports' achievements in the first half of 2025 also included strategic milestones and infrastructure enhancements. The collaboration with Bombardier to establish a dedicated service facility at Al Bateen Executive Airport aims to elevate the emirate’s position in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector. Additionally, a new MoU with TAQA Distribution to integrate advanced utility technologies showcases the operator’s commitment to innovation and sustainable growth.
As Abu Dhabi Airports continues to execute its strategic growth plan, it remains dedicated to fostering global partnerships, advancing infrastructure projects, and promoting sustainable innovation. These efforts are designed to support the UAE's economic diversification and strengthen its leadership in the global aviation industry, thereby reinforcing Abu Dhabi Airports' pivotal role as a driver of economic development and connectivity on the international stage.
