1000 Books Before Kindergarten Initiative Launched By Cultural Foundation At Abu Dhabi Childrens Library

Abu Dhabi Children’s Library is introducing the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy initiative in the UAE. Hosted at Cultural Foundation under the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, the programme follows the motto "Reading Starts from Day One," and targets children from birth to five years old.

The initiative asks families to share at least 1,000 books with each child before kindergarten. Parents and caregivers are treated as children’s first educators during the 0-5 years, with the programme designed to help them build daily reading habits and create a rich language environment at home.

The "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy initiative highlights shared reading as vital for early brain development. It supports language acquisition and improves school readiness, especially when reading is frequent and interactive. Cultural Foundation, as a cultural centre under DCT Abu Dhabi, uses this framework to focus on nurturing young minds in the emirate.

To launch the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy initiative, Abu Dhabi Children’s Library will organise a parent orientation session on 6th February at 5 pm. The session will outline the programme structure, demonstrate effective read-aloud methods, and show families simple ways to include reading within everyday routines.

Reading progress in the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy initiative is recognised at every milestone of 200 books. A final celebration marks the completion of 1,000 books, encouraging children to keep reading and giving families a clear sense of progress and achievement throughout the journey.

Parents and caregivers joining the "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" early literacy initiative receive continuous guidance across all stages. Abu Dhabi Children’s Library provides curated book lists, practical reading tools, and regular support, so families feel confident choosing suitable titles and maintaining consistent shared reading over several years.
