Abo Noghta Castles In Saudi Arabia Recognised As One Of The Best Tourist Villages For 2024
The United Nations Tourism Organization has recognised Abo Noghta Castles in Tabab, Saudi Arabia, as one of the "Best Tourist Villages for 2024." This announcement was made during a ceremony in Cartagena, Colombia, attended by Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb and other global tourism leaders. The recognition highlights the rich historical and cultural significance of Saudi Arabia's diverse destinations.
Minister Al Khateeb expressed his enthusiasm about this achievement, stating it underscores the deep heritage and cultural value of Abo Noghta Castles. He noted that the inclusion aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision to become a leading global tourism destination, offering unique environmental, cultural, and historical experiences. The minister emphasised the collaborative efforts behind this milestone.

The Ministry of Tourism worked closely with other government agencies to support and manage the nomination process for Abo Noghta Castles. This teamwork reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to showcasing its rural heritage on a global stage. It also aims to promote lesser-known treasures to international audiences, enhancing the Kingdom's cultural identity.
Abo Noghta Castles are significant historical landmarks in Tabab, located 25 kilometres northwest of Abha at an elevation of about 2,400 metres above sea level. The six forts and palaces are constructed from mountain stone, reflecting the authentic heritage of the Aseer region. These structures offer visitors views of the surrounding landscape, connecting history with natural beauty.
Tabab is a town rich in history and culture, home to over 150 villages interspersed with valleys such as Wadi Tabab, Al-Mughoth, and Dubwai. Known for its fertile lands and agricultural significance, Tabab produces various seasonal crops. This adds to its appeal as a tourist destination with numerous historical landmarks like ancient mosques, castles, and palaces.
The inclusion of Abo Noghta Castles in the "Best Tourist Villages" list is part of an initiative by the UN Tourism Organization. This honour underscores the importance of preserving historical landmarks like these castles that play a vital role in defining the cultural identity of the Aseer region.
