Abdulrahman Al Owais Cultural Foundation Established To Enhance Arts And Culture In Sharjah
The establishment of the Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais Cultural Foundation has been formalised through an Emiri Decree by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. This foundation is a private arts and culture entity in Sharjah, operating as a non-governmental, non-profit organisation with legal status and autonomy.
The foundation's primary mission is to enhance cultural and artistic development across the emirate. It aims to raise community awareness about heritage, cultural values, and artistic expressions. A significant focus is on preserving and displaying the founder's rare manuscripts, artistic artifacts, and heritage items to enrich public knowledge and sustain national identity.

Located in Sharjah, the foundation can establish branches within the emirate as decided by its Board of Trustees. The institution will be registered with the Sharjah Economic Development Department. The board serves as the highest authority, exercising powers according to the decree and bylaws. Until the board is formed, the founder manages the institution.
The board's responsibilities include setting policies, developing plans for advancement, and overseeing their execution. They are tasked with formulating bylaws essential for managing operations. Additionally, they approve budgets, create committees, appoint key personnel like directors and financial managers, and may delegate powers as needed.
The foundation supports cultural initiatives that align with its mission to advance arts within the emirate. It collects heritage artifacts of historical significance, particularly from the founder's collection. Each item is documented with photographs and detailed information to ensure comprehensive records are maintained.
Preservation of these artifacts is crucial; experts are engaged for maintenance and restoration to keep them in optimal condition. The foundation also prepares studies that highlight cultural heritage while contributing to knowledge dissemination.
Collaborations and Partnerships
Cultural partnerships are a key aspect of the foundation's strategy. Collaborations with governmental bodies, private entities, and educational institutions are encouraged to foster cultural development efforts collectively.
The initial Board of Trustees is appointed by the founder who also acts as chairperson. The board's composition, member terms, appointment procedures, and removal processes are outlined in the bylaws. A vice-chairperson is also selected from among board members.
Legal articles included in the decree address financial governance aspects alongside establishing a fundamental framework for operations. These provisions ensure smooth enforcement and publication of regulations governing the foundation’s activities.
This initiative reflects a commitment to nurturing cultural appreciation while safeguarding valuable heritage assets for future generations in Sharjah.
