Abdullah Bin Zayed Participates In Expanded International Ministerial Meeting On Syria In Jordan
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Expanded International Ministerial Meeting on Syria in Aqaba, Jordan. This gathering was part of the Aqaba Ministerial Meetings aimed at discussing the ongoing situation in Syria. The meeting was called by Jordan to address developments in the region.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasised that the meeting symbolises a unified international effort to support Syria's sovereignty and the aspirations of its people for security and stability. He highlighted the importance of regional and global collaboration to achieve a political settlement in Syria, aligning with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The meeting saw participation from key figures such as H.H. Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani of Qatar, Ayman Safadi of Jordan, Fuad Hussein of Iraq, and Abdullah Bou Habib of Lebanon. Other notable attendees included Dr. Badr Abdel Aty from Egypt, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani from Bahrain, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit from the Arab League.
Also present were Antony Blinken from the United States, Hakan Fidan from Türkiye, Jean-Noël Barrot from France, and representatives from other Small Group on Syria members like the UK and Germany. Kaja Kallas represented the European Union, while Geir Pedersen attended as the UN Special Envoy for Syria.
Sheikh Abdullah expressed gratitude towards Jordan for hosting this significant meeting. He also thanked all participating countries and organisations for their dedication to supporting Syria's unity and stability. The presence of Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh further underscored the UAE's commitment to international cooperation.
He stressed the necessity to aid UN Special Envoy Geir Pedersen in his mission to secure a political solution that ensures peace and prosperity for Syrians. "This expanded meeting reflects a collective international stance in support of Syria’s unity," he stated.
The discussions underscored a shared commitment to assist Syria in achieving long-term peace and development. By working together, these nations aim to foster an environment where Syrians can live with dignity and security amidst ongoing challenges.
