UAE And Estonia Collaborate On Joint Initiative For Ukraine’s Recovery Through Education And Skills Development
H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently met with Margus Tsahkna, Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs. This meeting occurred during the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80). They discussed regional and international developments, bilateral relations, and cooperation across various fields.
The UAE and Estonia have signed a Joint Declaration to aid Ukraine's recovery through initiatives in education, digital skills, and entrepreneurship. These efforts highlight both nations' commitment to supporting Ukraine and investing in youth for a prosperous future.

The Joint Declaration includes three main programmes. The EDUHUB Early Childhood Competence Centers aim to equip preschool teachers with modern STEM methods and first aid training. This initiative seeks to create safe environments for young learners in Ukraine.
The Coding Unicorns Future Skills Accelerators programme focuses on expanding STEM and coding opportunities for teenagers and young adults. It particularly targets girls through after-school clubs and intensive coding programs that align with labour market needs.
The Future Entrepreneurs Program integrates entrepreneurship education into vocational training. Thousands of students will gain business, financial literacy, and innovation skills to contribute to Ukraine's economic growth.
Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, commented on the Joint Declaration: "This partnership reflects the UAE’s steadfast belief that investing in Ukraine’s children and youth is investing in its future. By partnering with Estonia, a global leader in digital innovation and education, we aim to empower a generation that will rebuild, innovate, and thrive."
Humanitarian Efforts
The UAE has been committed to alleviating humanitarian conditions in Ukraine since the crisis began. Over US$105 million has been provided for humanitarian efforts. Cooperation agreements with the Olena Zelenska Foundation have been signed to support foster families and orphanages affected by the conflict.
The UAE has sent relief aircraft carrying over 1,015 tonnes of medical, food, and relief aid. Additionally, 50 ambulances and more than 4,500 generators have been provided. Two ships of relief aid were sent to Romania, benefiting over 1.2 million people, mainly women and children.
Mediation Successes
The UAE has successfully mediated 17 exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. Through these mediations, a total of 4,641 captives have been exchanged.
This joint effort between the UAE and Estonia underscores their support for Ukraine's long-term recovery while reaffirming their commitment to humanitarian principles and international cooperation.
