Abdulla Al Hamed Meets Shanghai Media Leaders To Strengthen UAE-China Media Collaboration Ahead Of BRIDGE Summit
Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the UAE National Media Office and UAE Media Council, recently visited Shanghai. He met with senior leaders from Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG) and Shanghai Media Group (SMG). This visit was part of the BRIDGE Roadshow's stop in Shanghai, which is a preparatory event for the BRIDGE 2025 Summit. The summit will be held in Abu Dhabi from 8th to 10th December 2025.
During his visit, Abdulla Al Hamed highlighted China's crucial role as a gateway to global media audiences and innovation ecosystems. He stressed the importance of collaboration in advancing the UAE’s strategic vision to become a global media hub. By focusing on joint strengths in media technologies and digital platforms, he expressed an intent to create content that resonates across West Asia, China, and beyond.
Fang Shizhong, President of SMG, emphasised the enduring strength of China-UAE cultural and media cooperation. He highlighted the importance of deepening ties through shared innovation and mutual dialogue. Fang underscored SMG’s ambition to enhance cooperation with international partners amidst evolving media landscapes driven by technology and platform convergence.
The BRIDGE delegation also visited SUMG headquarters, where they were received by President Li Yun. They gained insights into how SUMG has provided advanced digital media services to newspaper companies since 2013. This engagement aligns with the BRIDGE Roadshow's objectives of expanding international media partnerships ahead of the BRIDGE Summit 2025.
At SMG headquarters, Abdulla Al Hamed and his delegation toured various facilities. They explored state-of-the-art content creation studios, newsroom facilities, content fact-checking units, and advanced digital platform labs. These visits showcased SMG's capabilities in modern media production and technology integration.
Al Hamed noted that the relationship between the UAE and China serves as a distinguished model of cooperation built on mutual respect and a shared vision. He mentioned that these ties receive full support from the UAE’s leadership, which believes in building bridges across various sectors.
Commitment to Responsible Content Creation
The Chairman stated that this visit is part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with major Chinese media entities. It aims at activating partnerships for knowledge exchange and leveraging shared capabilities in content production and digital platform development. The integration of artificial intelligence tools is also a key focus.
Concluding his remarks, Abdulla Al Hamed said, "The UAE views purposeful media as a powerful tool for fostering societal awareness and promoting values of tolerance and openness. We see the media as a key partner in the journey towards sustainable development."
