39th Cospas-Sarsat Joint Committee Meeting Commences In Abu Dhabi With Global Participation
The 39th Cospas-Sarsat Joint Committee Meeting began in Abu Dhabi, hosted by the National Search and Rescue Centre (NSRC) of the National Guard. This event, running until 5th June, is under the patronage of Major General Staff Pilot Saleh Mohammed bin Mejren Al Ameri, Commander of the National Guard.
For the first time, the UAE is hosting this significant gathering. Over 200 participants from 45 countries and international organisations are attending. These include the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and International Telecommunication Union (ITU), all focused on satellite-based search and rescue operations.

Colonel Staff Pilot Rashed Al Naqbi, Manager of NSRC, highlighted that hosting this event showcases the UAE’s forward-thinking approach to humanitarian initiatives. He stressed the importance of enhancing national search and rescue capabilities while aligning with global standards.
Al Naqbi underscored the UAE's dedication to building strategic partnerships and sharing expertise with international bodies. This collaboration aims to improve emergency response readiness and save lives worldwide.
The event provides a platform for NSRC to demonstrate its operational readiness. Al Naqbi reiterated their commitment to advancing technical and human resources according to international best practices.
Allan Knox, Head of the Cospas-Sarsat delegation and Chair of the meeting, noted this as a milestone for being held in the UAE for the first time. He praised both the UAE and NSRC for their professional organisation and robust support.

Knox emphasised that these meetings are crucial for improving global search and rescue systems. They facilitate international coordination, expertise exchange, and showcase new technologies in this vital field.
