Saudi Arabia Participates As Second Vice-Chair At The 25th INTOSAI General Assembly In Egypt

The 25th Session of the General Assembly of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) commenced in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. Saudi Arabia, serving as Second Vice-Chair of INTOSAI, is represented by a delegation led by Dr. Hussam Alangari, President of the General Court of Audit (GCA). The event gathers around 800 participants from over 195 member countries.

During the assembly's initial day, several significant reports were reviewed. These included presentations from the chair of the INTOSAI Governing Board and the secretary general. Dr. Alangari delivered a report for the Policy, Finance and Administration Committee (PFAC), chaired by GCA. He highlighted the successful implementation of INTOSAI's Strategic Plan (2022–2025) and praised efforts to achieve priority objectives on time.

Dr. Alangari also reported as chair of the INTOSAI side in the INTOSAI-Donor Cooperation Steering Committee (IDSC), co-led by the World Bank on the donor side. His report underscored achievements in aiding Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in developing nations to bolster global transparency initiatives. He stressed maintaining effective partnerships and ongoing collaboration between INTOSAI member SAIs and donors.

The General Assembly evaluated reports from committees responsible for INTOSAI’s strategic goals. These included contributions from the Professional Standards Committee (PSC), Capacity Building Committee (CBC), and Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC). Reports from regional organizations like ARABOSAI, chaired by GCA, were also discussed.

A Technical Symposium is scheduled alongside the General Assembly with participation from GCA leadership and experts. Sessions will focus on Saudi Arabia’s expertise in financial, compliance, and performance auditing. In one session, Vice President of Financial and Compliance Audit Lama Alhammadi will address "The Role of Supreme Audit Institutions in Auditing Central Banks and Government Activities during Economic Crises."

In another session, Executive Director of Financial Audit and Compliance Ahmed Alqurashi will explore "The Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Auditing." Saudi Arabia is also showcasing its advancements at an exhibition booth during the assembly. The booth highlights GCA’s use of advanced technologies and AI tools through its Shamel Platform.

This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to enhancing auditing processes through technological innovation.

INTOSAI’s General Assembly convenes every three years in the country holding its presidency. The current session is hosted by Egypt, following previous sessions in Brazil and Russia. Discussions continue until Friday to address key agenda items, issue recommendations, and make decisions supporting SAIs worldwide.

The assembly aims to enhance transparency globally while fostering cooperation among peer SAIs under INTOSAI’s umbrella.
