151st IPU General Assembly Opens In Geneva With Saudi Shura Council Participation
The 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) commenced in Geneva, featuring a delegation from Saudi Arabia led by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council. This gathering included parliamentary leaders worldwide, numerous parliamentarians, and representatives from various international organisations.
During the assembly, discussions centred on the theme "Upholding Humanitarian Standards and Supporting Humanitarian Action in Times of Crisis." The IPU's four standing committees also addressed their respective agendas alongside this central topic. These committees are focused on United Nations Affairs, Peace and International Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and Sustainable Development.

On the sidelines of the general assembly, Al Al-Sheikh engaged in discussions with several key figures. He met with Faisal Al-Fayez, President of the Jordanian Senate; Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of the Moroccan House of Councillors; and Sardar Sadiq, Speaker of Pakistan's National Assembly. These meetings aimed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation among these nations.
In addition to these high-level meetings, Secretary-General of the Saudi Shura Council Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi attended a session of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments. Several members from the Shura Council also participated in discussions held by the IPU’s standing committees.
Al Al-Sheikh presided over a coordination meeting for the Arab Group at the level of parliament speakers. This meeting took place alongside the main assembly events and focused on enhancing collaboration among Arab parliaments to address shared challenges effectively.
The assembly provided a platform for exchanging ideas on pressing global issues and fostering international cooperation. The participation of Saudi Arabia's delegation underscored its commitment to engaging in global parliamentary dialogue and addressing humanitarian concerns during crises.
The event highlighted the importance of maintaining humanitarian standards globally while supporting actions that aid those affected by crises. Through these discussions and meetings, participating countries aimed to strengthen their collaborative efforts in addressing such challenges effectively.
