UAE's Ministry Of Climate Change And Environment Unveils 100,000 Seedlings Initiative For Schools
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, has introduced the '100,000 Seedlings' initiative. This project aims to distribute seedlings to public schools throughout the UAE. The initiative is designed to raise awareness among students about agriculture's importance and aligns with the 'National Agriculture Centre' goals under the 'Plant the Emirates' National Programme.
This initiative demonstrates the UAE's dedication to enhancing sustainable agricultural practices and boosting community involvement in agricultural production and food security. The launch event took place at Mohammed Bin Khalid School in Al Ain, attended by Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment. Dr. Al Dahak stated, "The ‘Plant the Emirates’ National Programme and the initiatives led by the ‘National Agriculture Centre’ have gained significant momentum in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and encouraging community participation in greening efforts across the UAE."

Dr. Al Dahak further explained that schools play a crucial role beyond education by nurturing generations who appreciate agriculture's role in shaping our environment and future. She added, "The initiative reinforces the mission of the ‘National Agricultural to drive advancements in agriculture and strengthen national food security." This effort aims to equip the sector with skilled talents capable of advancing agriculture.
Initial Distribution of Seedlings
During the event, 15,000 palm seedlings were distributed as part of the first batch. These seedlings were provided by Khalifa Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and Jenaan Investment Company. Public schools across the UAE will receive these seedlings initially as part of this phase.
Community Involvement
The Environment Friends Society is actively engaging volunteers, including students and community members, to assist in distributing and planting seedlings in various schools during this initial phase. This involvement underscores community participation's significance in achieving environmental goals.
Workshops and Training Sessions
In addition to distributing seedlings, workshops will be conducted for school staff and students on effective tree planting techniques. These sessions will also cover tree care and maintenance to ensure healthy growth. The workshops aim to educate participants on different tree species' roles in maintaining environmental balance.
Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, highlighted their commitment to involving students in these initiatives as part of Emirati heritage supporting sustainable development goals. The goal is to transform several schools into green oases reflecting a culture of greening and integrating society with nature.
This initiative marks a step towards fostering a culture that values planting and greening efforts within communities while aligning with national sustainability objectives.
