Launched by Türkiye's national public broadcaster, TRT, the streaming service tabii has made its debut across the MENA region, aiming to weave cultures together through engaging narratives. This initiative, which began in May 2023 in Türkiye, has quickly garnered attention by offering content that resonates with shared values. Its mission, encapsulated by the tagline "Stories That Bond Us," strives to meet the growing international appetite for Turkish entertainment by providing exclusive access to a diverse content portfolio.

The allure of Turkish storytelling has already reached an audience of over 750 million across 170 countries, including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, with Turkish series amassing significant viewership. The interest in these dramas has surged by 184% from 2020 to 2023. Known for their intricate plots and universal themes such as family, honor, and love, Turkish series have become staples in the entertainment diet of the UAE and the wider Middle East.

tabii Streaming Service Launches in MENA

The platform’s launch in the MENA region marks a significant milestone, introducing viewers to more than 40 original productions exclusive to tabii. These include series, movies, documentaries, and children's programming, alongside a comprehensive collection of popular TRT productions. To ensure inclusivity and reach a broader audience, tabii offers content in multiple languages, including Arabic, English, Spanish, and Urdu, in addition to Turkish. This multilingual approach is designed to transcend language barriers and provide a seamless viewing experience that celebrates diversity and fosters a deeper understanding of Turkish heritage.

TRT's Director General, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zahid Sobacı, highlighted tabii's potential impact at its MENA launch event in Dubai, stating, "TRT's global streaming service tabii will emerge as a crucial actor and a positive influence on the global streaming landscape, particularly in the Middle East, where shared cultural and historical ties resonate deeply." He further emphasized, "Tonight is more than just a streaming service launch; it marks the beginning of a new era in entertainment, where the rich stories of the East meet modern narratives of the West. As tabii expands globally, it continues to bridge cultures, celebrate diversity, and bring family-friendly entertainment to audiences worldwide."

In addition to historical narratives, tabii offers a rich collection of modern tales across various genres like action, adventure, comedy, and drama. Some of its standout original productions include stories about the renowned figure "Rumi," the action-oriented "Free Sky" focused on the Turkish Air Force, and the socially significant "The Late Offices," which delves into the life of a mortician. The platform also features popular actors such as Bülent İnal and Hande Soral, enhancing its appeal to a wide audience.

Since its inception, tabii has quickly surpassed 11 million users, showcasing its wide appeal and the high demand for Turkish content. With plans to expand further in the MENA region, including countries like Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia, tabii looks to captivate viewers with content that is both dubbed and subtitled in Arabic. This strategic move aims to enrich the digital entertainment landscape in the region with high-quality, culturally resonant content.

To cater to varying viewer preferences, tabii introduced both basic and premium subscription models in the MENA region. This approach allows subscribers complete access to tabii's originals and the extensive TRT content library, available in Arabic and other languages such as English and Spanish.
