Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Captivates Dublin With Sold-Out Shows
Over the weekend, Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras tour arrived in Dublin, Ireland, for three sold-out shows at the Av Stadium. The concerts marked her first performances in the city since six years ago. With more than 150,000 fans the shows, the 152-date Eras tour has become the most lucrative set of concerts history. The weekend also saw other major events taking place in Dublin, including Pride, Latitude Festival, the GAA football All-Ireland quarter-finals and a Shania Twain concert.
On Friday evening, around 50,000 fans filled the Aviva Stadium to watch Swift perform. The concert featured elaborate production, multiple costume changes and a setlist that spanned over three hours. Swift took her fans on a chronological journey through her albums and praised Ireland and its culture during her time on stage.
The US musician kicked off her time in Dublin by saying, "Dublin, we've arrived! You guys are making me feel so good; it's gone straight to my head. I feel very, very powerful." She went on to call Irish people "unmatched storytellers" with the "best accents."
In a now-viral segment of the show, one of Swift's dancers shouted "póg mo thóin" (which means kiss my butt) in Irish during a rendition of We Are Never Getting Back Together. Before the gig, Irish rock band U2 sent Swift a bouquet of flowers and a welcome note that read: "Dear Taylor, Welcome back to our hometown…leave some of it standing?!!!!"
