A film that delves into the culinary traditions of Saudi Arabia's Asir region has received an international accolade.
"Adventures in Saudi: Taste of Aseer" secured the "Culinary Journeys" award at the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) International Food Film Menu 2024 awards. This recognition underscores the Kingdom's growing reputation as a destination for authentic cultural experiences and natural beauty.
Highlighting Asir's Culinary Heritage
The film is a joint effort between Saudi Arabia's national tourism brand "Saudi, Welcome to Arabia" and broadcaster CNBC. It showcases the gastronomic heritage of Asir and emphasizes the diversity of the Kingdom's landscapes and culture. Known for its farm-to-table ethos, Asir maintains traditional cooking methods that are still prevalent today.
The narrative follows US travel influencer Mac Candee and his fiancée, Mabelle Chedid, on their first visit to Saudi Arabia. They experience the hospitality of the Asiri people and explore the connections between the land and its flavours. The couple hikes through Soudah's misty mountain valleys, learns centuries-old cooking techniques, and tastes dishes passed down through generations while visiting a traditional majlis.
Global Recognition for Cultural Uniqueness
The IGCAT Food Film Menu project aims to highlight cultural uniqueness as a step toward combating climate change. It focuses on regions worldwide and their food heritage. Winning entries were chosen by an expert jury and will be featured on IGCAT's website and social media channels.
Asir was named World Region of Gastronomy 2024 by IGCAT, making it the first non-European destination to receive this honour. This accolade further cements Saudi Arabia's place on the global stage as a hub for cultural and culinary tourism.
Facilitating Travel to Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom is simplifying travel requirements with its eVisa program. Visitors from 66 countries can now easily obtain visas online. Special provisions are available for GCC residents, UK, US, or Schengen visa holders, as well as residents of these regions.
The Saudi Tourism Authority has been instrumental in promoting these initiatives. By leveraging international platforms, they aim to showcase stories that highlight the diverse regions within the Kingdom.
