Recording Academy Expands To MENA, Taymoor Marmarchi Appointed Executive Director
The Recording Academy has appointed Taymoor Marmarchi as Executive Director to lead its expansion into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Marmarchi will work closely with the Academy's CEO and President to enhance the Academy's presence and support for music creators in the region. His role includes forming strategic partnerships, managing event and content production, talent relations, and implementing long-term strategies for global mission expansion.
In June, the Recording Academy revealed plans to extend its support for music creators internationally. Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, expressed enthusiasm about Marmarchi's appointment. "Taymoor brings invaluable expertise in the dynamic MENA music landscape to our organization," said Mason. "His passion for amplifying the voices of music creators, coupled with his keen understanding of the region's vibrant culture, aligns seamlessly with our mission to impact music creators globally."

Marmarchi is excited about his new role and its potential impact on the MENA music industry. "I am proud to be part of the Recording Academy's monumental step in recognizing and celebrating the incredible musical talent that our region has to offer," he stated. He emphasized that this initiative aims not only to promote cultural heritage but also to provide a global platform for regional talent.
Before joining the Academy, Marmarchi accumulated over 25 years of experience in various fields including music, film, television, live events, content production, communications, marketing, government relations, and national projects. He began his career as executive director of Quincy Jones' Global Gumbo Group in Dubai and worked on special projects for Michael Jackson.
Marmarchi's background includes involvement in significant government-led projects such as the Abu Dhabi 2019 Special Olympics World Games where he served as musical director. He also contributed to events like the 2023 COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference, the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, EXPO 2020 Dubai, and many others.
Additionally, Marmarchi previously headed Saudi media conglomerate Platinum Records at MBC Group. There he represented leading Arab music artists, produced numerous songs and music videos, and organized various concerts and festivals. He also produced talent for TV music formats including Arab Idol, The Voice Middle East, Arabs Got Talent, and X-Factor Arabia.
"Taymoor's extensive experience will be pivotal as we explore new opportunities to serve the MENA music community," added Mason. "We are thrilled to welcome him to the Academy during this transformative time for our organization." Marmarchi believes that fostering collaboration and nurturing creativity will elevate the MENA region's music industry globally.
Marmarchi highlighted that this initiative is about giving talent a platform to be heard worldwide. "The Academy will be instrumental in fostering collaboration, nurturing creativity, and driving professional growth within our music community," he said. This effort aims to ensure that voices from the MENA region resonate on a global scale.
The Recording Academy’s decision marks a significant step towards integrating diverse musical talents into its global mission. With Marmarchi’s leadership and extensive background in various high-profile projects across different sectors, there is optimism about achieving unprecedented levels of success for MENA’s music industry on an international stage.
