Mumbai Police (2023)

Released nearly a decade ago, 'Mumbai Police', directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by Bobby–Sanjay, is the movie that changed the course of cop thrillers in the Malayalam film industry. To this day, it is regarded as quite ahead of its time owing to the strength of its storyline and the twists. It tells the story of Antony Moses, a cop known for being a menace, who is recovering from a car accident that has robbed him of his memory. The amnesiac Moses, who finds himself in the midst of a killing, is then forced to trace back his steps and unravel the real nature of both himself and the murder. 'Mumbai Police' is regarded as one of the career-best performances of actor Prithviraj and the story is sure to stick with you long after the film.

Anweshippin Kandethum (2024)

Directed by Darwin Kuriakose and written by Jinu Abraham, 'Anweshippin Kandethum' follows two stories of murder investigated by a ragtag bunch of cops in two separate villages. The movie is supported by not just a tight plotline, but also of excellent cinematography and performances by the lead actors that include Tovino Thomas, Vineeth Thattil David, Rahul Rajagopal, etc. The twists hit at the right time and it is more than a satisfying watch.

Kannur Squad (2023)

Inspired by very real-life incidents, 'Kannur Squad' is the story of a group of police officers who are forced to unravel a crime within a short period of time. Spearheaded by Mammootty's fabulous performance, the movie, set in the Keralite district of Kannur, is directed by Roby Varghese Raj. It renders the story of a horrific crime that has shook South India and contrary to the usual pulpy heroic portrayal of policemen, 'Kannur Squad' adopts a more honest, vulnerable depiction of them. It makes for a very engaging watch and is elevated by Sushin Shyam's spectacular music.
