Kabul: STARZPLAY's New Thriller Series Featuring Jonathan Zaccaï And Darina Al Joundi Premiering August 2025
On August 14, 2025, STARZPLAY, a premier subscription video-on-demand service in the MENA region, will be the sole provider to debut the eagerly awaited thriller series "Kabul". This series, spanning six episodes, is the creation of Olivier Demangel and Thomas Finkielkraut, known for their work on "Class Act" (2023).
It narrates the harrowing tale of Kabul's downfall to the Taliban forces just as Western troops, including Americans and NATO allies, were finalizing their withdrawal from Afghanistan, marked for completion by August 31, 2021. The narrative delves into the chaos that ensues as these forces gear up to leave by the end of August, with the Taliban making significant strides towards Kabul on August 15.

In the face of this dire situation, diplomats from the United States, France, Italy, and Germany are thrust into a frantic effort to organize the evacuation of numerous Afghans and refugees to safety at the airport, assisted by the police.
Amidst this turmoil, the story brings to light the plight of the Afghan Nazany family, who become prime targets for the Taliban. The family members each navigate the crisis differently, embodying the series' exploration of courage and humanity under threat.
Jonathan Zaccaï shines in his role as Gilles, the determined head of security at the French embassy in Kabul, who is adamant about securing safe passage for Afghan refugees to Paris. One of the central figures he protects is Zahara of the Nazany family, portrayed by Darina Al Joundi, who is torn between fleeing the Taliban's wrath and keeping her loved ones united.
"Kabul" boasts a cast that includes notable talents like Vassilis Koukalani, Hannah Abdoh, and Gianmarco Saurino, highlighting the nuanced, individual impacts of the crisis.
The series will be available in its entirety as a complete box set of six episodes from the first day of release, ensuring that viewers can binge-watch the entire narrative without waiting.
