HBO Announces Harry Potter TV Series: A New Magical Journey
It has been 13 years since the last Harry Potter movie, and now HBO is planning to bring the magic back with a TV series adaptation of J.K. Rowling's books. The show aims to introduce younger generations to the world Harry Potter and will be a "faithful" take on the source material.
HBO and Max content chief Casey Bloys revealed that the series would "dive deep into each of the iconic books" and run for "10 consecutive years." While there were initial reports suggesting each season would cover a different book, it seems some stretching might be involved. Francesca Gardiner, a veteran of Succession, is on board as showrunner, with director Mark Mylod also attached to the project. Rowling herself is listed as an executive producer.
The series will feature a new cast, with Daniel Radcliffe confirming he won't be reprising his role as Harry Potter. No other casting announcements have been made yet. HBO has set a tentative premiere date for 2026, with the show airing on HBO rather than streaming exclusively on Max. As for a trailer, fans will have to wait a bit longer before getting a glimpse of this new adaptation.
