El Gouna Film Festival Returns for 8th Edition

The festival, initiated in 2017, has consistently gone beyond being merely a showcase for films. It has established itself as a vital conduit for dialogue, empathy, and cultural exchange under the banner "Cinema for Humanity."

This year, the festival’s competitive section, CineGouna, saw an unprecedented influx of over 290 project submissions in various stages of development or post-production. Out of these, 20 were chosen to partake in the CineGouna activities scheduled from October 17 to 23, 2025. This surge in applications indicates a growing interest and trust in the festival's role in supporting cinema. It also highlights the festival's commitment to nurturing emerging talent, offering them a platform to gain visibility and access to funding opportunities.

A key highlight of the 8th GFF is the emphasis on nurturing young filmmakers and encouraging fresh talent through numerous awards that reward innovation and creativity. This initiative aligns with the festival's broader mission to contribute positively to the film industry and promote values of peace and tolerance, especially in trying times.

The festival stands as a beacon for aspiring artists, offering them the chance to interact with international stars and filmmakers who will share their insights and experiences, further enriching the festival's vibrant cultural exchange.

The press conference, revealing the details of the forthcoming festival scheduled from October 16 to 24, 2025, was a gathering of notable figures. It featured Naguib Sawiris, the festival's founder and chairman of Orascom Investment Holding, alongside other personalities such as Samih Sawiris, founder of El Gouna; Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation; and acclaimed actress Yousra.

These individuals, along with other festival co-founders and directors, underscored their collective vision for the festival's impact on the film industry and beyond. The event was brought to life by the hosting of Egyptian actress and MC Nardine Farag, adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings.
