BTS’s Beloved Jin Hugs 1,000 Fans To Celebrate Completion Of Mandatory Military Service

In an emblematic celebration of completing his mandatory military service, BTS member Jin has embraced freedom in a unique way by planning to hug 1,000 fans. The 31-year old star, the eldest in the globally acclaimed seven-piece K-pop ensemble, marked his return to civilian life after serving in the South Korean military, setting a memorable precedent for fan interactions post-service. Jin's discharge took place at the 5th Army Infantry Division in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, where he was warmly welcomed by his bandmates J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, who had taken special leave to be there. Suga, another BTS member, was notably absent due to reasons reported by the Associated Press.

Jin's military service, which spanned over a year and a half, was described by him as a period filled with positive experiences, having met many good people along the way. This sentiment was shared during a live stream on Weverse, directly from the offices of HYBE, BTS' management agency. Following his discharge, Jin is set to make his first public appearance at a festival celebrating South Korean culture, Seoul Festa. Here, he will participate in a "hugging event" with 1,000 fans who were selected through a raffle, an initiative organized by his record label. Additionally, fans can look forward to a musical performance by Jin at the event.

In South Korea, military service is a compulsory duty for all able-bodied men aged between 18 and 28, with few exceptions allowed for artists, athletes, and entertainers who have significantly contributed to enhancing the country's global reputation. Such individuals are permitted to defer their service until the age of 30. BTS, having made monumental contributions to South Korea's cultural standing globally, falls under this exception. However, all members of BTS announced in October 2022 their decision to undertake military service, with their enlistments scheduled across 2022 and 2023. The group plans to reconvene in 2025, following the completion of all members' military commitments.

Prior to their military enlistment, BTS announced a hiatus to focus on individual projects, signaling a temporary shift from group activities to explore personal artistic endeavors. Formed in 2010 and debuting in 2013, BTS, short for Bangtan Sonyeondan or Beyond The Scene, has since ascended to unprecedented heights in the music industry. They are celebrated as the best-selling music act in South Korea's history, boasting a massive global following. Their accolades include achieving a number one single in the US, a number one album in the UK, and receiving multiple Grammy nominations, including nods across the four major categories in 2023.

This series of events, from Jin's discharge and his forthcoming fan interaction to BTS's planned reunion post-military service, underscores the group's enduring connection with their fans and their significant impact on global music and culture. As Jin steps back into his public life with a gesture of appreciation towards his supporters, the anticipation for BTS's full return in 2025 continues to build among fans worldwide.
