Blackpink's Jennie Embarks On Solo Journey With Columbia Records

The 28-year-old star has signed a contract with a major label and formed a partnership with her own label, Oddatelier. This collaboration will result in the release of a new solo single next month.

Jennie's solo deal follows Lisa's reassurance to Blackpink fans that the group is not disbanding. Despite launching her own artist management firm, Lloud, and planning a solo album, Lisa insists that she and her bandmates have no intention of splitting up.

This year, Jennie released "Spot!" with Zico and "Slow Motion" with Matt Champion. Her new solo contract comes after the K-pop girl group members—Lisa, Rose, and Jisoo—chose not to renew their individual contracts with YG Entertainment.

Lisa, 27, is also making her acting debut in HBO's "The White Lotus." In March, she promised to release a solo album this year "no matter what." The Pink Venom star, who released the single album "Lalisa" in 2021, assured fans that a new record would be out in 2024 and urged them to "stay tuned."

Rose, also 27, signed a new management deal with The Black Label in June. The company is owned by Blackpink's long-time producer Teddy Park, who hinted at new music from Rose.

Jisoo, 29, launched her own company called Blissoo. Although they haven't renewed their solo contracts with YG Entertainment, they remain under the agency as a group.

YG Entertainment stated: "The board has completed a resolution about renewing the contracts with Blackpink's four members."

The firm's founder Yang Hyun-suk expressed his satisfaction: "We are pleased to continue our relationship with Blackpink. They will continue to do their best to shine even brighter in the global music market as an artist representing not only our company but also K-pop... And we send our unwavering support and faith to [fans]."

Lisa told Elle US: "Of course, we're continuing, for sure. We're so proud of Blackpink, and I love Blackpink. It is not just because of our fans; it's for ourselves. There was no doubt. This is our life."

The group's decision not to renew their solo contracts with YG Entertainment marks a significant shift but does not affect their collective status under the agency.
