Twice The Success: 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice' Reigns Supreme At Box Office, Earns $264M

Moviegoers embraced more "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" this weekend. The Tim Burton sequel continued to dominate the domestic box office, raking in $51.6 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates on Sunday. This marks a 54% drop from its opening weekend, bringing its North American total to $188 million. Internationally, it added $28.7 million, pushing its worldwide earnings to an impressive $264.3 million.

"To drop just 54% is really impressive and indicative of a pretty solid word of mouth," said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. "Audiences are enjoying the film."

Despite its strong performance, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" faced limited competition from new releases. Among the fresh offerings were James McAvoy's horror film "Speak No Evil," a satirical documentary featuring right-wing podcaster Matt Walsh, and Dave Bautista's action movie "The Killer's Game."

The second spot in weekend ticket sales was claimed by "Speak No Evil," a remake of a 2022 Danish horror film about an unsuspecting family spending a weekend with new friends in the countryside. Starring McAvoy alongside Mackenzie Davis and Scoot McNairy, the Blumhouse production earned an estimated $11.5 million from 3,375 locations, benefiting from positive reviews and a strategic release date on Friday the 13th.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" secured third place in its eighth weekend with an additional $5.2 million. The Disney and Marvel blockbuster has now amassed $621.5 million domestically and $1.3 billion globally.

The Daily Wire's mockumentary "Am I Racist?" landed fourth at the box office with an estimated $4.7 million from just 1,517 theaters. Directed by Justin Folk, the film features conservative columnist Walsh undercover as a "DEI trainee." The movie cost around $3 million to produce and was released through SDG Releasing.

Rounding out the top five was "Reagan," starring Dennis Quaid as the former president. The Showbiz Direct release added another $3 million in its third weekend, bringing its domestic total to $23.3 million.

"The Killer's Game," starring Bautista as a terminally ill hitman, debuted in sixth place with $2.6 million despite poor reviews. Meanwhile, faith-based film "God's Not Dead: In God We Trust" managed to secure a top 10 spot with a $1.5 million launch.

In limited release, Amazon MGM Studios began rolling out Sundance breakout "My Old Ass," starring Maisy Stella, in seven theaters across New York, Los Angeles, and Austin. The coming-of-age movie made a combined $171,242 and will expand nationwide on Sept. 27.

Next weekend will see the release of "Transformers One," an Optimus Prime origin story. However, it may be relatively quiet at the box office until "Joker: Folie à Deux" hits theaters on Oct. 4.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters are provided by Comscore, with final domestic figures expected on Monday.
