Syrian Artist Assala Nasri Celebrated In Times Square As Spotify's EQUAL Arabia Ambassador
Spotify, the world's leading audio platform, has named Assala Nasri as the EQUAL Arabia artist for August. This initiative aims to highlight regional women talents from the Arab world. The global music program, which began in the region in 2022, celebrates women's contributions by showcasing their latest releases and encouraging fans to explore their work.
Assala Nasri, born in Damascus, Syria, grew up in a musically inclined family that fostered her early passion for music. Known for her powerful voice and versatility, she performs in various Arabic dialects such as Syrian, Egyptian, Khaleeji, Lebanese, and Moroccan Arabic. Her debut album "Law Terafo," released in 1991, featured the hit song "Ya Sabrah Yana" and quickly established her as a significant figure in Arab music.

To promote her latest album "Thumma Ana," Assala was chosen as Spotify's EQUAL Arabia Ambassador. The album includes ten tracks like the hit single "Ensan," showcasing her talent in blending different Arabic musical styles. Since the beginning of August, Spotify has supported Assala by featuring her on the cover of both the EQUAL Arabia playlist and the global EQUAL playlist. Additionally, she received various editorial placements and digital media promotions.
The campaign reached its peak when Assala's image was displayed on Spotify's Times Square billboard in New York City for the first time. This milestone marks a significant achievement in her career.
As an EQUAL Arabia Ambassador, Assala's influence goes beyond her musical achievements. She expressed her gratitude by saying, "Having my billboard in Times Square is an incredible milestone that fills me with joy. Thank you, Spotify, for this opportunity."
Nada Elmeri, Artist and Label Partnerships Manager for the Gulf region at Spotify, commented on Assala's selection: "Assala's powerful voice and exceptional ability to connect with fans across the Arab world through her diverse musical styles make her the perfect fit for our EQUAL Arabia program." Elmeri added that this initiative aims to spotlight extraordinary women creators and amplify their contributions both regionally and globally.
"Assala has been an incredible role model for many women artists," Elmeri continued. "Her voice and story will continue to touch and inspire fans for many years to come."
