Granit Xhaka And Manuel Akanji Named In Switzerland's Euro 2024 Squad

Switzerland's national football team, led by captain Granit Xhaka and defender Manuel Akanji, has been finalised for Euro 2024. Coach Murat Yakin announced the squad, aiming to replicate their impressive performance from the last tournament. Switzerland reached the quarter-finals in the previous edition, defeating France on penalties before losing to Spain.

Granit Xhaka, who captains the team, will be participating in his third international tournament. Xhaka recently helped Bayer Leverkusen secure their first Bundesliga title. Manuel Akanji, another key player, has had a stellar season with Manchester City, contributing to 17 clean sheets in 48 appearances across all competitions.

However, some notable players are missing from the squad. Genk striker Andi Zaqiri, who scored nine goals in 37 appearances during the 2023-24 season, and Kevin Mbabu, with 24 caps to his name, have not been included. Mbabu was part of the team that famously defeated France three years ago.

As part of their preparation for Euro 2024, Switzerland will host Austria in a friendly match on Saturday before heading to Germany. The Swiss team will begin their Group A campaign against Hungary in Koln on June 15. They will then face Scotland and the host nation in subsequent matches.
