Tommy Doyle Joins Wolves On A Permanent Basis After Leaving Manchester City
Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially secured the services of Tommy Doyle from Manchester City on a permanent basis. The 22-year-old midfielder, who has been with Wolves on loan this season, will join the club officially on July 1 after Wolves exercised their option to buy him for a fee reported to be just under £5 million. Doyle has committed to a four-year contract at Molineux, with the possibility of extending for two additional years, ensuring his stay until at least 2028.
Doyle's journey to Wolves saw him gaining experience through loan spells at Hamburg, Cardiff City, and notably helping Sheffield United secure promotion from the Championship last season. Despite making seven appearances for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, Doyle's career is set to flourish at Wolves, having already made 30 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.

Wolves' sporting director, Matt Hobbs, expressed his satisfaction with the permanent signing, highlighting Doyle's seamless integration into the team. "He's gradually earned more minutes and become more important, which I think is an ideal first year," Hobbs remarked. He praised Doyle's unique contribution to the midfield and his alignment with the club's cultural and on-field aspirations.
Hobbs is optimistic about Doyle's future, stating, "Tommy is a fraction of the player he will become," emphasizing the potential growth in his game as he adapts further to the league and deepens his understanding of Wolves' playstyle.
Despite his ineligibility to play against Manchester City in their upcoming Premier League match due to the terms of his loan agreement, Doyle shared his excitement about permanently joining Wolves. Reflecting on his departure from City, he expressed pride in his achievements with the academy and first team. "It's nice to close that chapter and open up the new one with Wolves," Doyle said, looking forward to contributing more significantly in the next season.
Doyle's commitment comes at a crucial time for Wolves, who are currently 11th in the Premier League under Gary O'Neil's first season as manager. Despite recent challenges, including injuries that have impacted team performance, Doyle remains positive about the club's direction and potential for progress.
"We're going in the right direction as a club; we're progressing, so it's exciting to be part of that journey," Doyle concluded. His enthusiasm for the future at Wolves mirrors the club's ambition and sets an optimistic tone as they aim to build on this season's foundations.
