Vivianne Miedema To Depart Arsenal, Ending A Historic WSL Chapter

Arsenal have officially announced the departure of Vivianne Miedema, the Women's Super League's all-time leading scorer, at the conclusion of the season. Miedema, who joined Arsenal in 2017 from Bayern Munich, has had an illustrious career with the Gunners, scoring 125 goals and providing 50 assists across 172 appearances in all competitions. Her achievements include winning the WSL title in the 2018-19 season and securing three Continental Cups.

Miedema's record-breaking tally of 79 goals stands as the highest in the league, and she has been awarded the Golden Boot for two consecutive seasons. Notably, she set a league record by scoring 22 goals in a single season. Arsenal Women's official Twitter account paid tribute to Miedema's contributions with a heartfelt message: "Once a Gooner, always a Gooner. Thanks for everything, @VivianneMiedema."

In a heartfelt video on Instagram, Miedema expressed her gratitude towards the club and its supporters. "After seven special years, it's time for my Arsenal journey to come to an end," she said. Despite her success, Miedema faced challenges during her last two seasons at Arsenal due to injuries. She suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in December 2022, which sidelined her for 10 months. Further complications required knee surgery in March, limiting her to just 13 appearances this season.

As Miedema prepares to leave Arsenal, reports indicate that Manchester City are the frontrunners to secure her signature on a free transfer once her contract expires at the end of the season. This move could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Miedema as she continues to make her mark in women's football.
