Vinicius Junior's Stellar Performance Secures Brazil's Win Over Paraguay
Vinicius Junior's performance against Paraguay was praised by Dorival Junior, who described it as nearly flawless. The Real Madrid star netted twice in Brazil's 4-1 victory, helping the team recover from a goalless draw with Costa Rica in their opening Copa America match.
Brazil now sits second in Group D with four points, trailing Colombia by two points. Colombia secured their quarter-final spot by defeating Costa Rica 3-0. Brazil needs a win against Colombia to top the group.

Vinicius' first-half brace, along with goals from Savinho and Lucas Paqueta, ensured a dominant win for Brazil. The 23-year-old had three shots and an expected goals (xG) tally of 0.81. He also attempted 17 dribbles, the second-highest by a Brazilian player in Copa America since Opta began tracking such data in 2011, only behind Neymar's 19 against Peru in 2015.
"Today he played a very important role," Dorival said of Vinicius. "He played an almost perfect match, he created very good situations and opportunities. He was dynamic, very effective and straightforward and direct. He played well with other players and teamed up nicely; he has great capacity."
Brazil ended the match with an impressive 3.86 xG. Despite this, Paraguay coach Daniel Garnero believed his team was competitive until Savinho made it 2-0 just before halftime. Savinho became the third youngest player to score for Brazil in Copa America this century, following Neymar and Gabriel Barbosa.
"In particular the first half, up to the 40 minutes, it was very even," Garnero told reporters. "I think we created some opportunities. Unfortunately, in the three minutes we got a bit distracted and they scored two goals that made a great difference in the result."
Upcoming Challenge Against Colombia
Dorival anticipates a high-level match against Colombia, who are on a 25-game unbeaten streak. "I think that we'll have a match of a very high level, with players that know each other, that usually play against each other," he added. "I have no doubts that Brazil will perform at the highest level."
Paraguay's defeat marked their first Copa America loss to Brazil since 2001. Despite this setback, Garnero acknowledged Vinicius' elite status: "And Vinicius is an elite player, no doubt about it."
The Selecao will need to bring their best game to secure top spot in Group D against Colombia.
