Vincenzo Italiano Takes Helm As Bologna's Head Coach, Succeeds Motta

Bologna have confirmed the appointment of Vincenzo Italiano as the club's new head coach, succeeding Thiago Motta. Italiano has signed a two-year contract with the Rossoblu, who will compete in the Champions League next season following a fifth-place finish in Serie A.

The 46-year-old Italiano departed Fiorentina at the end of the 2023-24 season. During his three-year tenure, he guided La Viola to consecutive Europa League Conference finals. However, Fiorentina faced heartbreak in both finals, losing to West Ham's Jarrod Bowen in 2023 and Olympiacos' Ayoub El Kaabi in 2024.

Italiano New Bologna Coach

Italiano also led Fiorentina to the 2022-23 Coppa Italia final, where they were defeated by Inter. His managerial career includes promotions with Trapani and Spezia. Now, he takes charge at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara, succeeding Motta, who is expected to replace Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus.

The Gaffer #WeAreOne

Italiano's appointment marks a significant step for Bologna as they prepare for their Champions League campaign. The club's fifth-place finish in Serie A secured their spot in Europe's premier competition, highlighting their progress under Motta's leadership.

Fiorentina's journey under Italiano was marked by near misses in major competitions. The team reached the Europa League Conference finals twice but fell short on both occasions. Additionally, their Coppa Italia run ended in disappointment against Inter.

Italiano's previous successes with Trapani and Spezia demonstrate his ability to achieve promotion and build competitive teams. His experience will be crucial as Bologna aim to make an impact in the Champions League and maintain their strong domestic performance.

Thiago Motta's expected move to Juventus adds another layer of intrigue to the managerial changes in Serie A. Massimiliano Allegri's potential departure from Juventus opens the door for Motta to take on one of Italy's most prestigious coaching roles.

Bologna's decision to bring in Italiano reflects their ambition to continue their upward trajectory. With a new head coach at the helm and a Champions League campaign on the horizon, the club is poised for an exciting period ahead.
