Van Dijk Welcomes New Manager Arne Slot, Pledges Future To Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk has confirmed his commitment to Liverpool, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming season under new manager Arne Slot. Slot, who will replace Jurgen Klopp, is set to take charge at Anfield from Saturday after a successful tenure with Feyenoord. The Dutchman led Feyenoord to the league title in 2023 and will join Liverpool officially on June 1, 2024, pending a work permit.
Slot's time at Feyenoord was marked by significant achievements. He concluded his reign with six consecutive league wins and an unbeaten streak of 20 Eredivisie matches, with the last defeat occurring against PSV on December 3. Over his three seasons, Slot managed 150 games across all competitions, securing 98 victories, which translates to a win rate of 65.33 per cent.

In addition to the league title, Slot also guided Feyenoord to KNVB Cup success in April, clinching a 1-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen in the final. This impressive track record has earned him the opportunity to lead Liverpool.
As the Netherlands began their Euro 2024 training camp on Monday, Van Dijk addressed his future at a news conference. "I still have a year left on my contract. I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season," he stated.
Van Dijk also expressed confidence in the changes ahead. "Obviously, there will be a lot of changes but I am confident we will make a big success of it," he added. He congratulated Slot and expressed his pleasure for him and his family while noting that his current focus remains on the national team.
Gravenberch's Perspective
Ryan Gravenberch, another Dutch player at Liverpool, shared his thoughts on Slot's appointment. "I think he can be good for my career; he's a coach who wants to play good football," Gravenberch remarked. This sentiment reflects the optimism surrounding Slot's arrival among Liverpool's Dutch contingent.
The transition period at Liverpool marks a significant shift as they prepare for the next season under new leadership. Both Van Dijk and Gravenberch are eager to work with Slot, anticipating positive outcomes from this new chapter in Liverpool's history.
