Donny Van De Beek Set To Join Girona After Manchester United Exit
Donny van de Beek has announced his departure from Manchester United. The midfielder, who joined the club from Ajax in 2020, is moving to Girona for a reported fee of £500,000 plus add-ons. Van de Beek struggled to secure a regular spot in United's midfield and nearly transferred to Lens last year before the deal fell through.During his four seasons at Old Trafford, Van de Beek played only 35 Premier League matches, starting just six of them. He was a key player for Ajax when they reached the Champions League semi-finals under Erik ten Hag in 2018-19. However, he couldn't replicate that success at United.Van de Beek shared the news of his transfer on Instagram on Wednesday. He expressed gratitude towards the Manchester United community for their support over the years. "Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end," he wrote. "I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years."The Dutch midfielder spent part of the 2021-22 season on loan at Everton, where he scored one goal in seven appearances. In January, he joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan but made only eight Bundesliga appearances.Van de Beek also highlighted personal milestones during his time in Manchester. "Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts," he added. "Good luck to everybody, we'll meet again."Girona finished third in LaLiga last season and will compete in the Champions League next season.
