Bielsa Urges Uruguay To Aim Higher After Dominant 5-0 Win Over Bolivia
Marcelo Bielsa believes Uruguay still have much to prove despite their dominant 5-0 victory over Bolivia in the Copa America. Facundo Pellistri, Darwin Nunez, Maximiliano Araujo, Federico Valverde, and Rodrigo Bentancur all found the net in their second Group C match on Thursday.
This win marks Uruguay's largest margin of victory in the Copa America since 1959 when they defeated Argentina by the same scoreline. The team began their campaign with a 3-1 win over Panama and has now won their first two matches in a Copa America tournament for the first time since 1995, a year they went on to lift the trophy.

Despite these impressive results, Bielsa remains cautious. "Without underestimating the strengths of the two teams we faced, those teams are not among the main competitors for the title," said the former Leeds United boss. "Respectfully, I think that there are some very significant steps to be taken. Drawing conclusions today would be incorrect."
The statistics underline Uruguay's dominance. They had an expected goals (xG) figure of 2.74 from 18 shots compared to Bolivia's 0.06 from four shots. However, Bielsa feels that winning two games without facing top-tier teams does not confirm Uruguay as one of the most important teams in the competition.
"Winning two games without facing the best teams in the competition does not allow us to define ourselves as one of the most important teams; that is a long way from being confirmed," Bielsa added.
Group Standings
Following this victory and with the United States losing 2-1 to Panama, Uruguay now sits three points clear at the top of their group. A draw against hosts Panama in their final match will secure them top spot.
Bielsa also commented on how well his players are adapting to his style: "As for the identification with our way of playing, that is being verified game by game."
"In the previous match we had 15 minutes of the second half with a different performance than the rest of the match; today there was also a similar period where the production was different, for a certain time we stopped creating danger for the opponents," he explained.
Uruguay's journey continues as they aim to build on their strong start and prove themselves against tougher competition in future matches.
