Real Madrid Star Toni Kroos To Retire Following Euro 2024 Campaign
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from football following the Euro 2024 tournament, where he will represent Germany. The 34-year-old player had been expected to sign a new contract with Real Madrid but revealed on Tuesday that he will retire after playing for his country on home soil at the Euros.
Kroos has had a distinguished 10-year career with Real Madrid, joining the club from Bayern Munich in 2014. During his tenure, he has won LaLiga and the Champions League four times each with the Spanish giants. He played a pivotal role in helping Carlo Ancelotti's team reclaim their domestic title in the 2023-24 season. Next week's Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund will mark his final club appearance before his swansong at the Euros.

Initially, Kroos retired from international football after the delayed Euro 2020 three years ago. However, he agreed to return to the national team under Julian Nagelsmann earlier this year. In an open letter to Real Madrid fans, Kroos expressed his gratitude and reflected on his time with the club.
In his letter, Kroos wrote: "As I have always said, Real Madrid is and will be my last club. After 10 years, at the end of the season this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget this successful time! I would like to thank everyone that welcomed me with an open heart and trusted me. But especially I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last one."
He continued: "At the same time this decision means that my career as an active footballer will end this summer after the Euro championship."
Kroos also issued a rallying cry as Real Madrid aim for a record-extending 15th European crown. He added: "I am happy and proud that in my mind I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it myself. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance levels. From now on there is only one leading thought, la 15! Hala Madrid!"
The announcement marks the end of an era for both Real Madrid and German football, as Kroos has been a key figure in both teams' successes over the past decade.
