Toni Kroos Pens Emotional Goodbye As He Retires From Professional Football
Toni Kroos has bid an emotional farewell following Germany's exit from Euro 2024. The veteran midfielder had earlier announced that this season would be his last, ending his club career with Real Madrid on a high note by winning the Champions League and LaLiga titles.
Julian Nagelsmann managed to bring Kroos out of international retirement for the European Championship, held on home soil. However, Germany's journey ended in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 extra-time loss to Spain on Friday. After the match, the 34-year-old took to Instagram to express his feelings and gratitude.

"So that's it. But before I take a break and at least try to realise what happened over the last 17 years, I don't want to miss the opportunity to say thank you to everyone for accepting me as how and who I am," Kroos wrote on social media. "Thanks to all my fans around the world for your unconditional support."
Kroos also extended his gratitude towards his clubs and coaches for their belief in him, his teammates for their camaraderie, and his friends for their honesty regardless of his success. He expressed special thanks to his agents who became friends, and his parents for preparing him to achieve his dreams.
The midfielder did not forget to mention his brother, who he described as his number one fan, and his children, who motivated him to perform at his best. "Thanks to my kids for being my biggest motivation to bring the best out of me; nothing better than seeing your kids being proud of daddy."
He also paid tribute to his wife, acknowledging her unwavering support: "Thanks to my beautiful wife for being you. Never change. This success wouldn't have been possible without you. It's ours!"
Upcoming Matches
Following Germany's elimination, Spain will face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday. The Netherlands will compete against England the next day for a spot in the final scheduled for July 14.
Kroos concluded his heartfelt message with a nod to football itself: "And last but not least: Thank you football! You beautiful game. And... you're welcome! Over and out."
