Erik Ten Hag Determined To Win Trophies, With Or Without Manchester United

Erik ten Hag displayed a combative attitude during the press conference following Manchester United's FA Cup victory. Reports on Friday suggested that United had decided to sack Ten Hag regardless of the FA Cup outcome against Manchester City. However, the Dutchman led his team to a 2-1 win at Wembley on Saturday, with first-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

This triumph marks United's first FA Cup success since 2016. On that previous occasion, Louis van Gaal, also from the Netherlands, was dismissed after securing the trophy. Ten Hag was defiant in his response to criticism, stating, "We have to keep going, and I'm not satisfied with it. We have to do better, and if they don't want me anymore, then I will go somewhere else to win trophies because that is what I did my whole career."

Ten Hag: Winning Trophies Anywhere

The former Ajax coach abruptly ended his press conference when a journalist suggested that United's eighth-place finish in the Premier League indicated they were underperforming. Ten Hag retorted, "Sorry to say this, but you don't have any knowledge about football, about managing a football team. When you don't have the players available, then you can't perform, so simple as that. And if that is the opinion, it is no problem. Then I go anywhere else and I go and keep winning trophies."

Ten Hag has now secured two trophies with United, having also led them to an EFL Cup victory last season. At full-time, he waved to the Red Devils' fans in appreciation of their support.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola commented on United's need to make a decision regarding Ten Hag's future. "They have to take a decision. He's a lovely person and an extraordinary manager," Guardiola said. Reflecting on City's loss, he added, "Disappointed today; it's normal teams can lose finals but this season has been extraordinary fighting for all the trophies in a good way. We will rest and come back next season."

Guardiola acknowledged the significance of winning the FA Cup for United, comparing it to City's achievements last season. Despite the disappointment of losing the final, he remained optimistic about City's future prospects.
