Suarez Slams Colombia's 'Ugly' Celebrations In Copa America Semi-final
Uruguay's striker Luis Suarez criticised Colombia for their unsportsmanlike celebrations following the Copa America semi-final. The match, held in North Carolina, saw Colombia advance to the final with a 1-0 win, thanks to Jefferson Lerma's first-half goal. However, the event was overshadowed by violence involving the families of some Uruguay players and Colombian supporters.
Colombia's forward Miguel Borja celebrated provocatively in front of Uruguay's players after the final whistle. This act prompted Suarez to express his displeasure with Colombia's behaviour. "There are always squabbles, jokes or whatever, but what is annoying is the way they celebrated," Suarez told reporters. "It makes no sense to celebrate like that."
After the game, some Uruguay players, including Liverpool's Darwin Nunez and Atletico Madrid's Jose Gimenez, climbed into the stands to reach their family members amidst punches thrown by fans wearing Colombia shirts.

Suarez further explained his frustration by comparing their conduct with Uruguay’s previous match against Brazil. "We eliminated Brazil the other day and none of us passed in front of any Brazil player. It was the opposite. We went to them afterwards because we are colleagues on the pitch and we know what it is like to be knocked out."
When asked about the incident, Suarez said: "You see your partner, kids, parents, elderly people in the stands and you want to know how they are. Things had started to fall on them." He emphasised that no one wants to witness such scenes but defended his teammates' actions as a response to protect their families.
"No one wants to see those images," Suarez added. "But obviously if you see that a family member is being attacked, you try and defend them. It does not justify what happened, but you have to realise they were trying to protect their families and their children."
The incident has cast a shadow over Colombia’s victory as they prepare for their third Copa America final appearance.
