Naismith Supports Kingsley's Potential Inclusion In Scotland's Euros Team
Steven Naismith, the Hearts boss, has expressed his belief that Stephen Kingsley, despite not being selected for the latest Scotland squad, still has the potential to earn more caps for his country. Kingsley, who has been in outstanding form for Hearts, missed out on joining teammates Lawrence Shankland, Zander Clark, and Craig Gordon in the national team for the upcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.
Kingsley, a versatile defender capable of playing both centre-back and left-back positions, last represented Scotland in September 2022 against Ukraine. Despite his recent omission and the stiff competition from players like Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson, Liam Cooper, and Scott McKenna, Naismith remains optimistic about Kingsley's international prospects.

"The fact he's being talked about as being part of the national set-up, he can be proud of that," Naismith stated. He highlighted Kingsley's return to the national team after a long absence as a significant achievement and pointed out the increased competition within the squad.
Naismith praised Kingsley's versatility and professionalism, suggesting these qualities set him apart. He acknowledged the challenge Kingsley faces in making the Euros squad but emphasized his never-give-up attitude.
Since joining Hearts in 2020, Kingsley has become one of the club's key players. His career had previously been hampered by injuries, which affected his opportunities at higher levels. Naismith commended Kingsley's hard work over the past five years to overcome these challenges and maximize his potential.
"I'd argue he's in the running for our club player of the year," Naismith remarked. He described Kingsley as consistent, professional, and a leader within the team. Naismith also shared a personal note, mentioning how Kingsley has been a significant support to him.
Despite his absence from the national team this time around, Kingsley's contributions at Hearts have not gone unnoticed. His journey from a promising career disrupted by injuries to becoming one of Hearts' standout performers is a testament to his resilience and dedication.
