Oyarzabal's Decisive Goal Powers Spain To Euro 2024 Triumph Over England
Mikel Oyarzabal emerged as Spain's saviour in the Euro 2024 final, securing a crucial victory against England. The Real Sociedad player netted the decisive goal with just four minutes left, having come on as a second-half substitute. This triumph marked Spain's fourth European Championship title, the most by any nation in the tournament's 64-year history.
Oyarzabal's goal came from Marc Cucurella's precise left-wing cross. Despite his heroics, Oyarzabal downplayed his role. "I have done my job. I did what I had to do at every moment to try to help," he said after Spain's 2-1 win on Sunday. "I was lucky enough to give the victory. Just the fact of being in the 27, you value it a lot here. To have the moment to help as it has happened to me is the best. It happened to me but could have happened to anyone."

Earlier in the match, Nico Williams opened the scoring shortly after halftime. His goal made him the second youngest player to score in a Euros final, at 22 years and two days old, only behind Italy’s Pietro Anastasi in 1968.
Williams' strike came just 69 seconds into the second half, making it the fastest second-half goal in a European Championship final. Reflecting on their achievement, Williams said, "Euphoric. All our people deserve it. We suffered a lot. They had a good team," he noted post-match in Berlin.
Cole Palmer equalised for England after coming off the bench, setting up an intense finish to the game. However, Spain managed to counter England’s threats effectively and clinched their historic win.
Spain's Dominance
The Spanish national team and clubs have shown remarkable consistency in major finals since 2002. They have won all 23 finals they have contested against non-Spanish teams across various competitions like Champions League, UEFA Cup, Europa League, World Cup, and European Championship.
"They have players who can make the difference but we were able to counter their weapons and in the end we won the European Championship and we are very happy," Williams added.
This victory underscores Spain’s dominance in European football and highlights their ability to perform under pressure on big occasions.
