Euro 2024 Victory Cements Spain's Status As World's Best Football Team

Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente, expressed immense pride in his team after their 2-1 victory over England in the Euro 2024 final. Mikel Oyarzabal scored the decisive goal just four minutes before the end at the Olympiastadion. This win marked Spain's fourth European Championship title, a record in the tournament's history.

Spain has now won all seven of their matches in Germany during this championship. This victory also continued a remarkable streak for Spanish teams and the national team, who have won all 23 major finals against non-Spanish teams since the 2002 Champions League final.

De la Fuente has now completed a treble of European Championship victories, having previously led Spain to success at under-19 and under-21 levels. He praised his players for delivering Spain's first major international trophy since Euro 2012.

"I couldn't be happier," De la Fuente said. "To see the fans, to see the players. A real team, European champions. I said I was proud, and today I am even prouder. It confirms what we are. For me, they are the best in the world, and today I confirm that definition."

Room for Improvement

Despite this triumph, De la Fuente believes there is still room for improvement. "There is always room for improvement; that is our goal," he stated. "The virtue of this team is that it always wants to improve. These players are very good."

Cole Palmer had earlier equalised for England after Nico Williams opened the scoring for Spain in the second half. However, Oyarzabal's late strike ensured Spain's dominance continued on the international stage.

This victory not only solidifies Spain's status as a football powerhouse but also highlights their consistent performance over two decades in major tournaments.

The Spanish team's ability to maintain such high standards across various competitions underscores their exceptional talent and determination.
