Spain 'Free To Dream' Of Euro 2024 Glory With Humble Approach: De La Fuente
Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, emphasised the importance of humility despite their flawless performance in the Euro 2024 group stage. Spain topped Group B, considered one of the toughest groups, with nine points and no goals conceded. They secured a 1-0 victory over Albania in their third match on Monday, even while resting key players, thanks to Ferran Torres' goal.
De la Fuente acknowledged the team's success but cautioned against overconfidence. "We are all free to dream, but we have to keep our feet on the ground. Being considered favourites doesn't guarantee you anything," he stated. He also appreciated the recognition of their hard work and talent but stressed the need for continued focus.

Spain became only the second team to win all three group-stage matches at a Euros tournament without conceding a goal, following Italy's example in the delayed 2020 edition. This is also the first time Spain has gone through an entire group stage at a major tournament (World Cup or Euros) without allowing any goals.
Their next challenge will be in the last-16 tie at RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on Sunday. However, they must wait to find out who their opponents will be. They will face a third-place finisher from Group A, D, E or F, which will not be determined until Wednesday when the final two groups conclude.
This uncertainty about their next opponent is causing some concern for De la Fuente. "Now we will have to spend a night awake because of the short time we have to study the next opponent," he mentioned. Despite this, he remains confident that his team will be mentally prepared and ready to give their best effort.
De la Fuente also highlighted that there is always room for improvement and that this principle is well-established within the team. "Of course we have room for improvement; it's a principle that we have established in the dressing room," he said. He praised his squad's ambition and determination.
The coach warned against complacency by pointing out how quickly fortunes can change in football. "We know how things work in Spain. One day you're at the top and the next day you're worthless," he remarked.
Spain's journey so far has been impressive, but De la Fuente insists on maintaining focus as they move forward in Euro 2024. The team's ambition and readiness to face any challenge reflect their commitment to achieving success while staying grounded.
