Sergio Gomez Joins Real Sociedad After Manchester City Tenure
Manchester City defender Sergio Gomez has transferred to Real Sociedad in a deal reportedly worth £10 million (€8.4 million). This move concludes his two-year tenure at the Etihad Stadium, where he made 38 appearances and won five major honours, including the Champions League and two Premier League titles.
Gomez struggled to secure a regular spot in Manchester City's first team. He joined from Anderlecht in 2022 for £18 million but only made 18 Premier League appearances. Manager Pep Guardiola preferred Josko Gvardiol, who arrived last summer, for the left-back position.

The 23-year-old returns to Spain, where he began his senior career with Barcelona B. His journey also included stints at Borussia Dortmund and Huesca before joining Manchester City. Real Sociedad announced the signing on social media, expressing their excitement about Gomez joining their squad.
"It's time to leave Manchester City, but I'd like to thank everyone at the CFA for their support and guidance during my time at the club," said Gomez. "Being part of such a talented, ambitious, and successful squad was a true honour. Winning major trophies, including the treble, is something I will never forget."
Gomez signed a six-year contract with Real Sociedad. Manchester City included a 30% sell-on clause in the transfer agreement. The Spanish defender expressed his excitement for this new chapter while wishing Guardiola and his former teammates success in their future endeavours.
"I am excited for this new adventure but I wish Pep Guardiola and the players every success in the future," added Gomez.
