San Francisco 49ers Secure Marketing Rights In The UAE To Expand Global Fan Base

The San Francisco 49ers have recently expanded their international presence by securing marketing rights in the UAE, underlining their ambition to further the reach of American football globally.

This endeavour is part of the NFL's Global Markets Program and marks the team's third international market entry, following notable successes in the United Kingdom and Mexico over the past three years. Through this strategic move, the 49ers aim to deepen their connection with an emerging fan base in the UAE, becoming one of the few NFL teams to establish a marketing foothold there.

49ers Expand Reach with UAE Marketing Rights

Brent Schoep, Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer for the team, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: "Expanding into the UAE is a significant step for the NFL. We look forward to growing our loyal fan base in this market, especially after our recent success in Mexico and the UK. We are also excited to partner with our global commercial partners, local community leaders, and the NFL in this new phase of international expansion."

The 49ers have demonstrated a keen ability to engage with international audiences, as evidenced by their achievements in the UK and Mexico. Having garnered a fan base increase of over 50% in these countries, they rank among the top two NFL clubs in terms of popularity there.

The team's interactive events have attracted more than 34,000 participants, facilitating direct interaction between fans and creating a vibrant community. With over 50 fan clubs worldwide, the 49ers' global presence is undeniable, making them a top-five favorite NFL team in eight countries.

The team's approach to the UAE market is multifaceted, focusing on digital engagement, community events, and educational programmes. Plans include leveraging Arabic digital and social platforms to reach fans, organising both live and virtual events in collaboration with local influencers and former team members, and introducing community impact initiatives. These initiatives aim to educate the youth about football through science and enhance their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).

The 49ers' commitment to community support is exemplified by their efforts in the San Francisco Bay Area, the UK, and Mexico, and they plan to extend this mission to the UAE. Through the Forty Niners Foundation, the largest of its kind in the NFL, the team aims to make a sustainable impact by hosting youth camps and workshops focused on STEAM education.

This not only helps participants build promising career paths but also teaches leadership skills that are valuable both on and off the field. Since 2021, more than 50 community events have been held in the UK and Mexico, leaving a lasting positive effect on local youths.

The 49ers' expansion into the UAE not only serves to grow the team's fan base but also aligns with the broader objectives of the NFL to make American football accessible worldwide. With the inclusion of flag football in the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games, the initiative is timely. The shared values of innovation, technological progress, and diversity between the San Francisco Bay Area and the UAE provide a solid foundation for the team's successful integration into the local sports culture.

The San Francisco 49ers' strategic move to acquire marketing rights in the UAE as part of the NFL's Global Markets Program underscores their commitment to international expansion and engagement with fans worldwide.
