Pepe Confident In Ronaldo's Return To Scoring Form At Euro 2024
Cristiano Ronaldo, known for his goal-scoring prowess, is expected to regain form soon after a challenging period with Portugal, according to veteran teammate Pepe. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has yet to score in Euro 2024, failing to find the net in Portugal's first three Group F matches under Roberto Martinez.
Ronaldo's goal drought extends over his last seven appearances for Portugal in major tournaments, marking his longest dry spell across the European Championship and World Cup. He has taken 19 shots since his last goal against Ghana at the 2022 World Cup. Despite this, Pepe remains confident that Ronaldo will soon rediscover his scoring touch.

Speaking before the last-16 match against Slovenia on Monday, Pepe expressed his belief in Ronaldo's imminent return to form. "Cristiano lives for goals, that's a fact," Pepe stated during Friday's press conference. "But have you seen his availability on the pitch to help the national team? It's incredible. He's the player with the most minutes in our team, at 39 years old. He's doing very well."
Pepe continued to praise Ronaldo's contributions beyond scoring. "He'll do very well in the final stages of the European Championship. I'm certain he will give us a lot of joy," he added. Pepe and Ronaldo previously lifted the Euro 2016 trophy together.
At 41 years old, Pepe became the oldest player in Euro history by participating in this year's tournament. Reflecting on his career, he said, "I'm just happy to be part of this group; it's a privilege." He attributes his longevity to his passion for football and dedication to training and games.
"The secret [is] the passion I have for football," Pepe explained. "I've said several times that it's a privilege to be able to get up and do what I love most with a lot of concentration and competitiveness." He emphasised the love he puts into every action, both in training and during matches.
No Plans for Retirement
Despite his age, Pepe has no immediate plans to retire from football. "I haven't thought about it yet," he said when asked about retirement. "My focus is on the next training session, on the next game, which is important to me and to Portugal."
Pepe remains committed to his current responsibilities and prefers not to dwell on future uncertainties. "The future belongs to God," he remarked. "I have many things to worry about today, such as how I will defend my teammates in the training sessions ahead, how to recover for tomorrow's training."
The seasoned defender continues to prioritise his present duties over contemplating retirement or future plans.
As Portugal prepares for their upcoming matches, both Ronaldo and Pepe are expected to play crucial roles in their quest for success at Euro 2024.
