Brighton Announces Departure Of Coach Roberto De Zerbi After Historic Season
Roberto De Zerbi will depart Brighton & Hove Albion following the Seagulls' final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday. The club confirmed this news on Saturday, stating that the Italian coach and the club had mutually agreed to part ways.
De Zerbi's tenure at Brighton has been marked by significant achievements. He guided the club to European competition for the first time in their history after taking over from Graham Potter, who left to join Chelsea. Brighton had a strong start to the 2023-24 season, but injuries to key players affected their performance.

Despite progressing through a challenging Europa League group that included Ajax and Marseille, Brighton was eventually eliminated by Roma. Their Premier League form also declined, with only four wins since the beginning of the year. Ahead of Sunday's match against Manchester United, Brighton's highest possible finish is 10th.
In the first half of the Premier League season, Brighton was among the top scorers, netting 38 goals in 19 matches with a conversion rate of 13.3%. However, their performance dipped significantly in the latter half. In their last 18 games, they scored only 17 goals, with a conversion rate of 6.6%, the lowest in the league during this period.
Brighton chairman Tony Bloom expressed gratitude for De Zerbi's contributions: "Roberto has given us two excellent seasons of service, leading us to new heights, including our first European campaign. We have mutually agreed to end Roberto's contract at a time that suits both parties."
De Zerbi also shared his thoughts on leaving: "I am very sad to be leaving Brighton but proud of what my players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our fans in these past two historical seasons. We have agreed to end my time at Brighton so that both the club and I can continue to work in ways that suit each of us best."
Future Prospects
De Zerbi was previously linked with a move to Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp's departure. However, Liverpool opted for Feyenoord's Arne Slot instead. De Zerbi now has time to consider his next steps and future plans.
The departure marks the end of an era for Brighton under De Zerbi's leadership. The fans are expected to give him and his staff a heartfelt send-off during Sunday's match against Manchester United.
