Renato Veiga Advocates For Patience During Chelsea's Tactical Rebuild Under Maresca
Renato Veiga, Chelsea's new signing, has called on fans to trust Enzo Maresca's process following their heavy pre-season defeat to Celtic. The Blues were beaten 4-1 by the Scottish champions in Indiana, which came after a 2-2 draw with Wrexham in their first match under Maresca.
Despite the loss, Veiga remains hopeful about the future. "Of course, it's about results and in every football game you want to win," he said. "Chelsea especially has to win every game. But we are in pre-season. The most important thing is the process, the connection between each other."

Chelsea managed 10 shots on target against Celtic and hit the woodwork twice. However, their only goal came from a penalty converted by Christopher Nkunku. Defensive issues also plagued them as they were caught playing out from the back three times.
Veiga emphasised the importance of training under Maresca. "He [Maresca] is a very direct manager, very direct in what he wants," Veiga noted. "You just have to enjoy and learn the maximum that you can in every training session, to give everything you can in every session—that is very important for him as well, and after, you can replicate it on the pitch."
The young player signed from FC Basel for £14 million earlier this month and inked a seven-year deal with Chelsea. Although his role for the upcoming season remains uncertain, Veiga is excited about representing Chelsea.
Veiga's Ambitions with Chelsea
"How can you say no to Chelsea?" Veiga added. "For me, they are the biggest club in England. They have a very ambitious project, not only for the present but the future as well." He expressed his happiness at joining Chelsea and his eagerness to get more opportunities to play for the club.
Reflecting on his childhood memories of watching Chelsea, Veiga said, "I was watching them [Chelsea] at home [when I was young], buzzing about Didier Drogba's goals and N'Golo Kante's tackles. I just want to be able to live those moments as well."
The team’s defensive struggles need addressing before their Premier League opener against Manchester City on August 18th. Maresca faces challenges ahead of this crucial match.
Veiga concluded by stressing that while pre-season results matter, building connections within the team is crucial for long-term success.
