Ten Hag Asserts Rashford's Exclusion From Euro 2024 England Squad Justified

Marcus Rashford's recent performance for Manchester United has led to his exclusion from England's Euro 2024 squad, a decision that his club manager Erik ten Hag believes is justified. Rashford, along with Manchester City's Jack Grealish, was unexpectedly left out of Gareth Southgate's squad for the tournament in Germany.

Rashford's omission comes after a season where he scored only seven goals in 33 Premier League appearances. This marks one of his lowest goal tallies in a top-flight campaign, with fewer goals only in the 2015-16, 2016-17 (both five), and 2021-22 (four) seasons. Manchester United finished eighth in the league, their lowest position in history.

Rashford's Euro 2024 Snub Justified

Speaking as a pundit for NOS, Ten Hag commented on Rashford's form. "Rashford and Grealish were both lacking this season. And when you are lacking, you risk not getting picked for your country," Ten Hag said. The manager emphasized that Rashford had not done enough to be considered for the national team.

Future at Manchester United

Despite speculation about his job security under the new Jim Ratcliffe regime, it was confirmed last week that Ten Hag will remain in charge at Old Trafford. When asked about the possibility of managing the Netherlands in the future, Ten Hag stated he is content with his current role. "I've never been chasing anything. I'm very happy with where I am now. And I want to make the most of it," he said.

Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze, and Jarrod Bowen were among the wide players preferred over Rashford for the Euro 2024 squad. Rashford had been a regular in the England squad since his first tournament appearance at Euro 2016.

The decision to leave out Rashford and Grealish highlights the competitive nature of international football and the high standards required to secure a place in national squads. As Manchester United prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on Rashford to see if he can regain his form and re-establish himself as a key player for both club and country.
