PSG Sets Unbeaten Away Record In Ligue 1 With Win At Metz

Paris Saint-Germain concluded their Ligue 1 season with a 2-0 victory over Metz on Sunday, thanks to early goals from Carlos Soler and Lee Kang-in. The Ligue 1 champions, who rested several key players, finished the season with 76 points, nine ahead of Monaco in second place.

PSG, under the guidance of Luis Enrique, made history by becoming the first team in Ligue 1 to go unbeaten on the road throughout an entire campaign. Key players, including Kylian Mbappe, were rested ahead of the Coupe de France final against Lyon on Saturday.

The visitors started strong with Soler breaking the deadlock seven minutes into the match, assisted by Lee. Five minutes later, Lee doubled the lead, making him the first South Korean player to score and assist in the same Ligue 1 match since Hwang Ui-jo for Bordeaux in 2019.

Metz's Struggles

Metz had opportunities late in the match but failed to capitalise. They now face a relegation play-off against Saint-Etienne. Despite their efforts, they could not find a way back into the contest.

Historical Achievement

PSG's achievement extends beyond Ligue 1. They are the first team in Europe's top five leagues to complete an entire league season without trailing for a single minute in an away match in the 21st century. Their tally of 76 points is only surpassed by Saint-Etienne's records of 77 points in 1968-69 and 81 points in 1969-70 when counting three points for a win.

This season's performance sets a high standard for future campaigns. PSG's focus now shifts to their upcoming Coupe de France final against Lyon.
