Pete Wild Expresses Fury Over 'Outrageous' Penalty In Barrow-Crawley Draw

In a heated match at the Broadfield Stadium, Barrow manager Pete Wild did not hold back his criticism regarding a penalty decision that led to a 1-1 draw against Crawley. The controversy centered around a penalty awarded by referee Sam Purkiss, which Wild described as an "outrageous, ludicrous decision." This moment of contention arose after Barrow's Emile Acquah had put his team ahead with a goal just before half-time. However, Crawley's Danilo Orsi equalized in the second half with his 20th goal of the season from the penalty spot, keeping both teams in contention for the play-off places.

Wild expressed frustration over the time taken by Purkiss to award the penalty for a handball by Rory Feeley, suggesting that the linesman influenced the decision due to the referee's initial uncertainty. "It took 20 seconds to make that decision, why was that?" Wild questioned, highlighting the delay and subsequent crosses into the box before the penalty was given. Despite this setback, Wild praised his team's performance as a "classic Barrow" showing, emphasizing their solid defense and counter-attacking prowess.

Wild Slams 'Ludicrous' Penalty Call

On the other side, Crawley's manager Scott Lindsey commended his team's effort to secure victory and remained optimistic about their play-off chances. After bouncing back from two consecutive defeats, Lindsey pointed out Crawley's calm approach to their play-off ambitions, attributed to their underdog status at the season's start. "We are the calmest because we are not supposed to be there," Lindsey remarked, confident in controlling their destiny without focusing on other teams.

However, Lindsey also voiced his displeasure over a refereeing error that led to midfielder Jay Williams being wrongly booked. This mistake means Williams will miss Crawley's crucial last two games of the season. Lindsey expressed his frustration, noting Williams' significant contributions and calling for the decision to be reviewed: "It's the wrong decision; it's not fair and should be looked at."

The draw leaves seventh-placed Crawley holding a slender one-point advantage over Walsall in the race for the play-offs. Both managers' post-match comments reflect the high stakes at this late stage of the season, with every decision under scrutiny as teams vie for promotion.
